Gynecological consultation consists of a questionnaire-based interview with a specialist, physical and gynecological examination with breast exam, cytological analysis of vaginal smear. When needed, a specialist makes a decision on further testing. As for the couples treated for infertility the male partner's attendance is suggested.
An intrauterine device (IUD) is a birth control device, also known as a coil, placed in the uterus. The IUD is the world's most widely used method of reversible birth control. There are two broad categories of intrauterine contraceptive devices: inert and copper-based devices, and hormonally-based devices that work by releasing a progesterone. Most IUD's make a woman's periods heavier, but the Mirena (hormonal coil) makes periods lighter than usual. Because of this, it is frequently used as a treatment for menorrhagia (heavy periods) even in women who don't need contraception. The Mirena has been used as well to treat painful periods, endometriosis, chronic pelvic pain, dysmenorrhea, anemia and fibroids. The insertion procedure is simple and usually takes only 5 minutes.
Cervical erosion is treated in various ways depending on the cause. If an infection is present, antibiotics are necessary. When cervical erosion is caused by trauma to the cervix, either by injury or a chemical such as vaginal douches, avoiding the cause and time to heal are the only treatments. After cytological verification, painless electrocoagulation (cauterization) of uterine cervical erosion is used as a treatment.
Supervision of pregnancy consists of the assessment of fetal development and routine prenatal care of pregnant women as early as the first trimester till the delivery.
Supervision of pregnancy consists of the assessment of fetal development and routine prenatal care of pregnant women. Our intention is to have a normal course of every pregnancy after infertility treatment.
Routine ultrasound screening in pregnancy is performed two to three times (usually once per trimester). First-trimester ultrasonography is performed to confirm the presence of pregnancy in the uterine cavity. An early screening scan at around 11-13 weeks is done to measure the fetal nuchal translucency and to evaluate the fetal nasal bone to aid in the diagnosis of Down Syndrome. Second-trimester ultrasonography is able to detect possible congenital malformations, when the fetus is large enough for a precise study of fetal anatomy. Multiple pregnancies can be firmly diagnosed and dates and growth can also be assessed. Placental position is also determined. Third-trimester ultrasonography may sometimes be done to assess fetal weight and growth or to follow up on possible abnormalities seen at an earlier scan. Also placental position is further verified.
